A coal train derailment east of Salmon Arm, B.C, Monday morning knocked down a power line, leaving 950 customers without electricity.
A CP spokesperson says the train and ten cars went off the rails at about 5:30 a.m. PT in Canoe, B.C.
Kevin Hrysak says the company doesn't yet know what caused the derailment but no one was injured and there is no threat to the environment.
"At the present moment we have all of our first responders and operational personnel on site, assessing the situation and ensuring all safety precautions are addressed and taken before the cleanup commences," said Hrysak.
The train collided with power lines when it derailed, leaving hundreds without electricity Monday morning.
Electricity has been restored to all but about 90 customers east of downtown Salmon Arm. BC Hydro estimates full power to be restored by 9:00 a.m PT.
