The daughter of a high-ranking RCMP officer in Kelowna, B.C., has been charged with drug trafficking.

Lisa McKinnon, 22, has been charged in connection with a suspected dial-a-dope operation in which illegal drugs were allegedly delivered after being ordered by telephone.

McKinnon’s father, Supt. Bill McKinnon, is the officer in charge of the Kelowna detachment. Her mother also works for the police force.

On Tuesday, Lisa McKinnon was arrested along with another man, for allegedly possessing and selling crack cocaine and heroin.

The superintendent was purposely kept out of the investigative loop and was not aware his daughter was a suspect until she was arrested and charged, said Insp. Rick Flewelling.

"Once we learned the identity of the daughter, we took steps to ensure the integrity of the investigation by limiting the number of individuals involved,” Flewelling told CBC News.

Flewelling said Supt. McKinnon was shocked and disappointed when he learned about the arrest.

“Be mindful of the fact they are parents. Doesn’t matter what position they’re in. And when it comes to drugs, they can touch anybody in a negative fashion,” Flewelling said.

Lisa McKinnon was released on a promise to appear in court March 29.
