A woman has been found frozen to death at Apex Mountain Resort, confirm RCMP.

Benoite Camille Marye, 31, was a seasonal employee at the resort, where she worked as a lift attendant.

Police said Marye's body was found on a path behind a home across from the Stray Horse Inn on Apex Mountain Road at 7:45 a.m. PT Monday.

'It's like losing one of our family members'—James Shalman, general manager Apex Mountain Resort

RCMP Sgt. Rick Dellebuur said police do not suspect foul play and believe cold weather was a factor in Marye's death.

"It's unfortunate and there is certainly no doubt that the cold temperatures that we've been experiencing these last couple of days have certainly played a part in this," said Dellebuur.

He said Marye succumbed to the elements even though she was wearing winter clothes, jacket and proper footwear.

Won customer service award days before dying

Apex Mountain Resort general manager James Shalman said Marye and her boyfriend Olivier Gourdel are originally from France. It was their first season at the resort.

"She was an absolutely amazing employee of ours. Within the last couple days actually we had recognized both her and her boyfriend as being amazing employees and given them awards of recognition for going above and beyond the call of customer service," said Shalman.

"It's like losing one of our family members," he said. "People can't actually believe that this has happened."

RCMP said Marye was at a staff gathering the night before she died. Shalman agreed that was the case, but wouldn't elaborate further.
