A friend of a teenage girl who died at a Maple Ridge, B.C., house party in 2008 has testified that the girl’s condition was getting apparently worse, but she could not get any adult who was present to call for help.
Ashley Dunn told the court that the deceased, Shannon Raymond, 16, had taken ecstasy with friends earlier at another party and then bought one more ecstasy pill for $2 from the son of the accused, Victoria Turley.
Turley is charged with failing to provide the necessities of life in connection with Raymond’s death.
Dunn said Raymond couldn't hold herself up and complained of a headache before she was carried to a bedroom where she began screaming repeatedly.
Dunn said she told a group of adults in the house that something was seriously wrong with Raymond and to call an ambulance.
One of the adults dismissed her concern and said Raymond would sleep it off, Dunn said.
Shannon Raymond died after a house party in Maple Ridge, B.C., in July 2008. (CBC)Dunn spent the night at Turley's home said she was awoken when Turley discovered Shannon had stopped breathing.
The girl died before paramedics arrived at about 6 a.m.
The Crown alleges that Turley, 40, was the supervising adult in the house and therefore was responsible for the girl’s welfare.
Turley's lawyer is expected to start presenting the defence's case on Monday.
