Charges will not be laid in connection with a fatal collision that killed a 10-year-old Edmonton girl on Okanagan Lake last summer.

Emily Chaplin died Aug. 26 when a jet ski she was riding on smashed into a six-metre power boat off Kelowna, B.C.

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says alcohol and drugs were not factors, so dangerous operation of a vessel or criminal negligence were the only options remaining.

He says witness statements didn't support such charges against the operator of the power boat or the jet ski.

Emily's 18-year-old brother Jarett was riding on the jet ski with her and suffered a broken arm and leg.

A civil suit has now been filed and Clark says Mounties will not discuss the case further while legal action is underway.
