The Langley School District is meeting with parents on Wednesday to talk about overcrowding in a school in the Willoughby neighbourhood.
R.C. Garnett Elementary was designed to hold just 350 students, but is already schooling more than 550. Next year, there will be an estimated 622 students.
The school district wants to start sending students in Grades 6 and 7 to a neighbouring school, but that idea isn't sitting well with parents. District spokesman Sandy Wakeling admits it's a challenge.
"The school currently has several portables on site and enrolment is projected to continue increasing," said Wakeling.
Christy MacLeod, who has two children at Garnett, said busing students to another school would be inconvenient and a waste of money.
However, she doesn't just blame the school district for what she believes is poor planning.
"It also lies at the township level — at our mayor, at our council — because they're approving development without realizing there is nowhere for these kids to go to school," said MacLeod.
The district plans to make a decision within the next several weeks.
