A new documentary about legendary movie star Bruce Lee has had its world premiere in Vancouver.

A B.C. production company, Network Entertainment, is behind the project, entitled I Am Bruce, which had its first public showing Wednesday night.

The company won over Lee's family by ensuring them that the film would focus on the philosophy behind his martial arts.

Lee’s ideals concerned self-awareness and living true to the ancient ethics at the root of all his rigorous physical training, according to Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee.

Lee said she hopes people who see the film, “walk away, hopefully understanding that they have felt his influence in their lives, maybe without even knowing it.”

The CBC’s Alan Waterman has more in this report.
