A skier has been killed in an avalanche near Nelson, in southeastern B.C.
The slide occurred on Meadow Mountain at about 11:00 a.m. PT, hitting a group of 10 skiers and two guides from Selkirk Wilderness Skiing, said Keith Davis, a company spokesman.
Davis said one of the skiers was buried and was quickly dug out by the guides, who tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.
No other injuries were reported.
The deceased was airlifted to hospital in Nelson, about 100 kilometres south of the avalanche site, RCMP said. His name will not be made public until family members are notified.
RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating.
Davis said the group was cat-skiing, which involves skiers and guides travelling to remote locations aboard small tracked vehicles.
