A dog has been found to have survived a horrific car crash that killed its owner in B.C.’s southern interior last week.

The accident claimed the life of Dan McGowan, and police presumed the McGowan’s pit bull, named Jake, also perished after the car tumbled down a 300-metre embankment onto a river bank near Lillooet.

But the dog survived, getting out of the wreck, climbing out of the river valley, and then spending the next two days in freezing weather before he was found.

The CBC’s Leia Hutchings has Jake’s story.
