Accused child abductor Randall Hopley pleaded guilty to two counts of breach of probation Monday morning in a Cranbrook, B.C., courtroom.
He was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Hopley, 46, drew widespread attention in September after he was arrested and charged with abducting three-year-old Kienan Hebert from his bed.
Randall Hopley pleaded guilty to breach of probation in Cranbrook court on Monday. (RCMP)Hebert was returned to his home on Sept. 11 — five days after he was kidnapped — seemingly unharmed.
Police named Hopley as their main suspect early in the investigation. He was hunted by police for almost a week.
At the time, Hopley was on probation for an earlier attempted abduction.
In 2008 Hopley was convicted of breaking into another Sparwood home and trying to kidnap a 10-year-old boy. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and three years probation.
As part of his conditions, Hopley was required to regularly report to a probation officer and not change residences.
"I think he missed one day in September and that's what led to the charge today that he pled guilty to," said Hopley's lawyer William Thorne.
The court heard Hopley didn't report to his probation officer on Sept. 12.
One day later he was arrested by police in a dramatic takedown at an abandoned cabin at an old cement plant near Crowsnest Lake.
Hopley pleaded guilty to violating those probation conditions on Monday.
He has undergone a psychological assessment and has been found fit to stand trial in Hebert's abduction.
Thorne said his client is in solitary confinement at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre and is doing alright, considering the circumstances.
Hopley will make his next court appearance Feb. 20 on charges of breaking and entering, abduction and kidnapping.
