Two men have been arrested in Mexico and authorities are seeking a third in connection with the Jan. 3 homicide of Robin Wood, of Salt Spring Island, B.C., CBC News has learned.

(CBC)The two 18-year-old suspects were apprehended by police Tuesday at the central bus station in the city of Cihuatlan, the local prosecutor’s office said Thursday.

Wood, 67, was shot to death during an apparent break-in by thieves at an apartment owned by a friend of in the town of Melaque, on Mexico’s Pacific coast between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco.

Wood's friend, Arvid Chalmers, who owns the apartment, was a witness to the slaying.

He said he and Woods returned to the apartment about 1 a.m. Jan. 3 and found two armed young men inside.

Chalmers said Wood confronted the men and was shot.

The prosecutor said the two accused have already faced a judge who will decide on the basis of evidence presented whether to hold them in custody or let them go in the next three to six days.

Wood was a mechanic and former owner of a car repair business on Salt Spring Island, which is in the Strait of Georgia, about 50 kilometres north of Victoria.
