Burnaby RCMP say a 29-year-old Coquitlam man has been charged in connection with the fatal hit and run death of an elderly woman.
Virginia Itubay, 73, was killed in January 2010 while crossing the intersection of Willingdon Avenue and Kitchener Street.
Ria Renouf, Itubay's niece , said the family is glad an arrest has been made.
"Today, her light shines a little brighter in our family once again," Renouf said.
"And though we will never be whole, though this arrest will never bring her back to us, to be able to know she will finally have the justice she rightfully deserves is a comfort that simple words alone cannot communicate to you."
Vincenzo Moscato Peragine, 29, has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death.
He has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 31.
