Avalanche risk closes B.C. highway again

Dangerous avalanche conditions once again forced the closure of Rogers Pass on the Trans-Canada Highway in B.C. between Revelstoke and Golden on Thursday morning.
Officials said the route will be closed for up to two hours at a time between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. through Glacier National Park so crews can perform avalanche control work.
The route was also closed for much of Wednesday morning. A plan to close the route near Three Valley Gap for avalanche control was cancelled.
South of Revelstoke, Highway 31 will also be closed in both directions eight kilometres south of the Junction with Highway 23 for avalanche control between 10 a.m. and noon on Thursday.
Farther west, Highway 99 will be closed north of the south end of Duffy Lake Road between 9 a.m. and noon for avalanche control.
Highway 40 has also been closed because of a rockslide west of Lillooet, and officials have not said when it might reopen.
In the backcountry, the avalanche risk is rated high for most of the province's mountain regions. More snow is forecast to fall across southern B.C. on Friday.
