Police are warning residents of North Vancouver about a charity scam being run by two young men are posing as fundraisers for B.C. Children's Hospital.

The pair appear as two clean-cut young men, one in a suit, the other in a Santa hat, said RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong.

They go door to door, urging residents to donate to the hospital’s foundation and offer Starbucks coffee beans in exchange for the money.

But they offer a reduced price on the beans if you use your debit card.

“So an official receipt is printed out, given to the donor and it all appears upfront,” De Jong said.

De Jong said their mobile debit machine is likely stolen.

It records personal information and then the men then go to the bank and make a large withdrawal from the victim’s account.

“One victim had $808 taken from their account,” he said.

One is described as Caucasian, about 30 and five-feet ten inches tall, the other as an Asian about five-feet six and about 25 years old.

The men were seen in a light brown, four-door vehicle.

Anyone who has been approached or has information is urged to call police.
