A University of Victoria student is suing a senior B.C. government employee for allegedly using a hidden camera to videotape her in the bathroom of her rented apartment for years.

According to a claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, education student Devon Harrington rented a basement suite for $675 a month from Robin Mitchell and his wife in August 2008.

Mitchell works as a senior computer software expert for the B.C. government.

Harrington claims in March she found the hidden video camera that had been recording her undressing, showering and using the bathroom for the 32 months she lived there.

Harrington also claims Mitchell made collage videos from the recordings to share with friends and post on the internet.

She said she vacated the suite immediately after she found the camera, and maintains that the ordeal has left her depressed and humiliated.

She's suing Mitchell for damages and thousands of dollars in rent.

Harrington’s allegations have not been proven in court.

Mitchell was unavailable for comment to CBC News.
