A Nanaimo, B.C., family has turned their loss into a big boost for a cancer research charity.

Garrett Paquette, 30, was killed in an ATV accident on Nov. 11, mid-way through his Movember fundraiser. Movember is an annual fundraiser that raises money and awareness for men's healthy, specifically prostate cancer.

His father, Roger Paquette, decided to carry on his son's campaign by selling raffle tickets for $1,000 worth of seafood. The campaign raised $115,000, making it the largest Movember fundraiser in the world.

"Everybody everywhere just rallied and rallied and rallied until we got close and ... we were able to push him over the top and into first place."

Paquette says it's a positive way to honour his son's memory.

"Garrett was very passionate at helping other people," the elder Paquette said. "We'll build a bigger and stronger team than this year for next year, so try and duplicate or do better than what we did this year."

The seafood draw will be held in Nanaimo over the weekend at the bank where Paquette worked before his death.
