The remains of a paraplegic scuba diver missing in B.C. since 1985 have been found, 26 years after he disappeared.

The remains of 29-year-old Peter Devoe were discovered last month, entangled in the nets of two commercial fishermen in Burrard Inlet, just west of Cates Park, between Deep Cove and the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.

Although the remains were mostly skeletal, the Coroners Service of British Columbia was able to identify Devoe after receiving numerous tips from the public, it was confirmed Wednesday.

Peter Devoe was 29 years old when he disappeared while diving at Cates Park in North Vancouver in 1985.

Devoe was diving with a relative at Cates Park in North Vancouver when he experienced problems with his equipment and failed to resurface.

Emergency services were alerted and an extensive search carried out at the time, but no trace of the diver was found.

Devoe was paralyzed from the chest down due to a car accident in 1978, but remained active and said of his favourite sport, "I just love getting down there, playing with all the crabs, looking at everything and having a good time."

A specific medical cause of death could not be determined, but foul play has been ruled out.
