Occupy Vancouver protesters and supporters twice marched a few blocks from their art gallery downtown encampment to an office building Thursday. (CBC)
Several dozen Occupy Vancouver protesters marched twice on the downtown offices of Brookfield Properties Corp. as a show of support for Occupy Wall Street campers evicted from Zuccotti Park in New York earlier this week.
Brookfield, which has its offices at the corner of Burrard Street and West Georgia, is the owner of Zuccotti Park and was instrumental in having the protesters kicked out this week, the Occupy Vancouver protesters say.
The protesters attempted to get up to Brookfield's offices in successive marches Thursday in the early afternoon and then later at about 5 p.m. PT, but the building security appeared to have shut down the elevators, so they staged protests in the lobby of the building instead.
Meanwhile lawyers for the City of Vancouver and the protesters were in court again on Thursday as the city seeks an injunction to shut down the protesters camp on the front lawn of the Vancouver Art Gallery in downtown Vancouver.
The city has been arguing the camp breaks city bylaws and enforcement has been problematic, while the protesters have been arguing they have complied with the bylaws and shutting down the camp would violate their Charter right to free expression.
