A Richmond Mountie is facing several impaired driving-related charges after a hit and run in Delta, B.C., in September.

In a written release, police say Cpl. Tony Bernard has been charged with having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired, refusal to provide a breath sample, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop after an accident.

Delta police were called to an accident in the 5400 block of Highway 17 on Sept. 15 after a driver reported being side-swiped by another car.

The driver reported the licence plate number of the other car allegedly involved, and the suspect was later pulled over by Delta police.

The suspect was identified as Bernard, an off-duty RCMP member driving his personal vehicle.

Bernard is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Nov. 21.
