Dylan Reichelt, the son of the B.C. Lions Football Club's athletic therapist, died in a car crash in Langley, B.C., Saturday night.

Langley RCMP Cpl. Kirby Adams, at the scene of the crash, said that it was raining heavily at around 9:30 p.m. PT when a BMW rolled and struck a tree near the intersection of 36 Avenue and 198A Street.

Adams also said a second car was involved.

The driver of the BMW was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

A representative of the B.C. Lions Football Club confirmed that the 18-year-old who died was the son of Bill Reichelt, the Lions’ head trainer for the past 35 seasons.

According to a biography posted on the B.C. Lions' website, Bill Reichelt co-ordinates a medical staff that is responsible for preventing and treating the football team’s injuries.

Alcohol not a factor: Police

Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said on Sunday that poor weather conditions and speed may have contributed to the crash, but that "alcohol is not believed to be a factor."

Marks said that police now believe that two vehicles, a Mazda and a BMW, were travelling together eastbound on 36th Avenue before the crash.

"Each vehicle had two occupants, all from Langley, known to each other, and all 18 years old," Marks said in a written release.

Police said it was raining heavily when the accident occured, and that a second car was involved but only one car crashed.Police said it was raining heavily when the accident occured, and that a second car was involved but only one car crashed. While the Mazda went off the road to the left, crashing into a hedge, the BMW went off the road to the right, hit a tree, and then rolled into another tree. The occupants of the Mazda received minor injuries.

Marks said that "charges are anticipated, perhaps for both drivers" and that police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call Langley RCMP.
