One motorist is dead following a two-vehicle crash caused by a moose near Prince George.

Police say the incident took place after 10 p.m. PT Friday when a car struck a moose on Highway 16 West, reports the Prince George Citzen.

They say the car crossed into oncoming traffic and was then hit on the passenger side by a second vehicle.

Police say the driver of the first car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the other vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are asking drivers to be extra cautious while travelling on highways and to watch for animals that may be in the area as wildlife, especially moose which can be difficult to see at night.

The names of the drivers have not been released, and police do not suspect that speed or alcohol are factors in the accident.
