8800 264 Street, Langley, British Columbia

Emergency crews in Langley, B.C., are working to remove a hot-air balloon caught in some trees and power lines near the banks of the Fraser River, but it is not clear how it got there.

According to officials with the Langley Fire Department, the balloon came down in the 8800 block of 264 Street, east of Vancouver. BC Hydro workers were first on the scene to cut power from nearby power lines.

Bruce Ferguson, the assistant fire chief in Langley, says it does not appear the balloon was carrying passengers, and there are no reports of any injuries, but is not yet clear where the balloon came from and how it became entangled.

"The balloon is tethered, it's caught up in a tree and there is nobody on the balloon,...so I'm not sure if they were just inflating it, getting ready for a flight or if they had just finished a flight, but there's nobody on the balloon," he said.
