A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his mother in Burnaby, B.C., earlier this week.
Benedict Tomajin is scheduled to appear in Vancouver provincial court Wednesday afternoon to face second-degree murder charges.
"We're alleging that Mr. Tomajin fatally stabbed his 45-year-old mother," said RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen. "We're alleging that that actually occurred on the street in plain view of many neighbours in the area. And as a result of that, second-degree murder charges have been laid."
Police were called to a home in the 6700 block of Elwell Street, in the Middlegate neighbourhood, on Monday night. Neighbours called 911 to report that a woman was being attacked outside.
Josie Tomajin was found lying in the middle of the street about a block away from her home. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died.
Police said at the time that it appeared Tomajin ran into the street and past several homes before collapsing on the side of the road.
Police said the incident appeared to have been sparked by a domestic dispute.
