The 20-year-old driver who was critically injured in a highway collision with an RCMP cruiser in Agassiz last Tuesday night died in hospital on Monday morning.
Steve Genberg and a 19-year-old passenger with serious injuries were airlifted to hospital after the crash. The police officer involved suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Genberg, an employee at Mission Towing, was expecting a child with his girlfriend this winter.
Abbotsford police say their independent investigation into the crash on Highway 7 east of Agassiz continues, but they are still awaiting interviews with some of the witnesses. The officer driving the cruiser has been put on desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
Some witnesses have told CBC News and other media outlets that the police vehicle crashed into the victim's car with no sirens or lights on.
