A B.C. man hoping to buy tickets to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final for $4,400 has told police that he was robbed of the money instead.

The alleged victim said he had responded to a Craigslist advertisement and agreed to purchase two Canucks tickets.

In a telephone conversation, the man posing as the seller suggested they meet Tuesday at noon in a movie theatre parking lot in Coquitlam, B.C., police said in a release later Tuesday.

The two met and the suspect entered the victim's vehicle, immediately produced a weapon and took the would-be buyer's cash, the release said.

Police did not specify the kind of weapon used.

The victim told police the robber made a comment about planning to rip off three more people using the same method.

There were no injuries and the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect is a Caucasian male, about 35 years old, six feet tall, with short black hair and chipped front teeth. He was wearing a black hoodie with a small, white design on the back, described as an "upside down pear."

The RCMP said they urge the public to exercise caution when engaging in online transactions.
