B.C. has proclaimed Monday a special day to mark the anniversary of the gold-medal win by Canada's men's hockey team at the 2010 Olympic Games — but the name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Feb. 28 has been officially proclaimed "Duncan Keith, Scott Niedermayer, Brent Seabrook, Roberto Luongo and Shea Weber Day," according to Colin Hansen, the deputy premier.

The five hockey players were a part of Canada's men's Olympic hockey team that won the gold medal on the final day of the Winter Games in Vancouver. All five lived and played in B.C. at some point in their hockey careers.

But many Canadians might find it easier to remember the day as "Golden Goal Day," in memory of Sidney Crosby's winning goal in overtime that defeated the U.S. in the men's ice hockey final.

"The Olympic Games left Canadians with a wide range of highly emotional memories," Hansen said. "But perhaps what we will remember the Games most for is Sidney Crosby's golden goal and the critical role these men played on that gold-medal winning team."

In total, B.C. is making eight proclamations to recognize 17 athletes from B.C. who won medals during the Games in Vancouver and Whistler.

Duncan Keith played minor and junior hockey in the Okanagan, Scott Niedermayer grew up in Cranbrook, Brent Seabrook is from Tsawwassen, Robert Luongo lives in Vancouver and Shea Weber was born and raised in Sicamous.
