A 44-year-old man is dead after a snowmobile collision in Prince George, B.C., on Sunday night.
Police were called to a small island in the middle of Eena Lake at about 9:45 p.m. PT to reports of a snowmobile collision.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"I've been doing this for several years, and between avalanches and collisions with snowmobiles there always seems to be some factor that may have prevented these fatal situations and in this case, clearly darkness is the first one that jumps out at me," said RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass.
Police did not release any additional details about the crash.
"They did go out in partner, there was two of them, so that was good," Douglass said.
"Obviously one couldn't locate the other and went for help, so that worked out good and that is the way it should be."
Douglass said police are working to determine what lead up to the crash, but the investigation has been stalled because warmer temperatures mean it is no longer safe to cross the ice to reach the island.
The man's name has not been released.
