A deadly crash west of Prince George on Tuesday was caused by a 19-year-old driver who lost control of his car and smashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle, according to the RCMP.

The young driver was killed when his 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier hit a 1997 Chrysler Intrepid, killing two male passengers, aged-72 and -45, in the other car.

Three people were also injured in the crash, including a female passenger from the Cavalier who remains in serious but stable condition.

The female driver of the Chrysler and one female passenger were also injured but have since been released from hospital. None of the names of the victims have been released by police.

At the time of the crash highway officials had warned that slushy snow was creating dangerous driving conditions on Highway 16.
