Two men and one woman are facing charges for allegedly holding another man captive in a downtown Vancouver luxury high-rise on Thursday evening, say police.

The trio are suspected of confining a 21-year-old man in a condominium suite in the Shangri-La building on the 1100 block of Alberni Street, according to Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness.

But around 7:30 p.m. PT, the man managed to escape and contact police, and the emergency response team was sent out to search the building, said McGuinness.

They found the man hiding in a room in the building, suffering from facial injuries, and arrested the suspects as they tried to get away.

"Two suspects who had fled in a vehicle from the hotel when police arrived were tracked down and captured near the Burrard Bridge a short time later. A third suspect was taken into custody after ERT members located him in another suite around 9:30 p.m.," she said.

The three suspects are facing a number of charges, including forcible confinement and assault with a weapon. The police said it appears to be a targeted incident, but the motive is still under investigation.

The Shangri-La building is Vancouver's tallest. It houses a five-star hotel on its lower floors and luxury private residences on its upper floors.
