A car that flew four storeys into a construction pit is lifted out by a crane Friday. (CBC) A car involved in a bizarre East Vancouver traffic accident was lifted out of a building excavation site Friday, 24 hours after the vehicle landed on its roof in the huge hole.
The driver was alone in the car and suffered a mild concussion from the impact of the four-storey fall into the pit at Main Street and 30th Avenue East.
The car happened to land on a small extra hole dug into the bottom of the excavation in a way that prevented the roof from collapsing completely onto the driver.
"A few feet either way," said Vancouver police Acting Sgt. Andrew Prebushewski at the scene. "He's very lucky."
The driver was turning at the intersection when the car was hit and sent flying into the hole.
The driver managed to crawl out with the help of emergency crews, witnesses said.

The driver of the second car, which remained on the roadway, also suffered minor injuries.
Police are still investigating the incident.
