A team from the Calgary Police Service has arrived in Kamloops, B.C., to take over the investigation of a police shooting that left one man dead.

Few details have been released about the Friday night incident, which ended with a sport utility vehicle crashing through a coffee shop around 6:15 pm in the 200 block of Tranquille Road in Kamloops.

Police would only say that the dead man was in his 50s. An autopsy will be conducted next week.

Police have said two veteran RCMP officers were involved, but not injured.

The outside police agency will conduct the independent investigation as a matter of RCMP policy. It also means the independent Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP won't engage their observer program.
