Stéphane Tétreault, a young classical musician studying in Montreal, and Barbara Kozicki, an actress studying in Vancouver, are among the recipients of Hnatyshyn Foundation performing artists grants.

The $10,000 grants were announced Monday in Ottawa.

Tétreault, 17, has studied violoncello with Yuli Turovsky and given solo performances with chamber ensembles such as Musici de Montréal, Orchestre l'Orchestre Métropolitain and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada.

Kozicki, 31, who won the award for English-language theatre, has had film, television and voice assignments with production houses in Vancouver and Calgary.

Other winners include:

  • Jocelyn Lai, 19, of Vancouver, who won the award for classical piano.
  • Daniel Reynolds, 21, of Vancouver, who won the Oscar Peterson Grant for jazz performance.
  • Danielle Gould, 17, of Vancouver, who will train with the Goh Ballet of Canada.
  • Emanuel Lebel, 25, of Quebec City, a baritone who won the award for classical performance.
  • Guylaine Jacob, 21, of Quebec City, who won the award for French theatre.
  • Jarrett Siddall, 21, of Toronto, who won the award for contemporary dance.

The grants are to be used for the students' studies in September.

The late Ray Hnatyshyn established the foundation in the mid-1990s after completing his term as governor general. Hnatyshyn was a devoted arts patron and wanted to support the arts and arts education.
