Smoke rises from a wildfire on North Vancouver's Mount Seymour on Sunday evening. (CBC)A small wildfire broke out on the North Shore of Vancouver on Sunday night, but it was not immediately endangering any homes or buildings.
Smoke was first spotted on Mount Seymour just north of the Northland golf course around 8 p.m. PT, but it took fire fighters about an hour to find the precise location of the fire.
There is no road access to the site and firefighters had to hike into the area to fight the blaze, which was only about a half a hectare in size.
Crews were able to contain the fire before darkness forced them to restrict their activities overnight. They returned around 8 a.m. on Monday morning to continue fighting the flames.
Firefighters say they suspect a group partying in the forest whose campfire got out of control may have started the fire.
There is a campfire ban for the entire southwest of B.C. and much of the area is rated at an extreme or high fire risk because of the extremely dry conditions.
