B.C. Hydro lowered the canal water level so divers could search for the body of Josh Evin on Monday. (Bob Keating/CBC)Professional skateboarder Josh Evin, 29, is presumed dead following a motorcycle accident near Nelson, B.C.
Police believe Evin drowned after his motorcycle hit a concrete barrier and he and a passenger were thrown into a hydro canal next to the Kootenay River on Sunday morning. The male passenger was rescued by passing motorists.
Dozens of Evin's friends and family were gathered at the scene of the crash on Sunday, hoping for the best, but fearing the worst as B.C. Hydro lowered the water in the canal and sent divers in to search for a body.
Evin was a sponsored skateboarder who was widely known in Canada's skateboard community. He also owned a skateboard shop in Castlegar, in southeastern B.C.
His friends said he was a fearless rider of skateboards, and had some experience with dirt bikes.
