An early morning fire has forced one of B.C.'s most exclusive resorts to delay the opening of its 2010 season.

The fire destroyed three guest buildings, two lounge tents and a portion of the cookhouse at the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, the resort said in a news release.

"We are just thankful no one was injured and that staff acted so quickly and stopped the fire from spreading," said John Caton, the resort's managing director.

"We are in the process of alerting our upcoming guests and helping them make alternative arrangements. Then we will look at whether we can rebuild in time to open this season."

The resort is located northwest of Tofino, off the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Starting at $5,500 a person, the resort offers three-, four- and seven-night packages that include return airfare from Vancouver, meals, snacks and guided activities including fishing, horseback riding and kayaking.

Caton said the resort will work with fire officials to determine the cause of the blaze and with a construction team to figure out the cost of a rebuild.

The fire didn't touch 20 guest tents, showers and hot tub facilities.

Staff and animal quarters, which are located away from the guest area, were also unscathed.

"At this point we are not sure when we will reopen, but we will do our best to look after our guests that did book with us to find a similar wilderness vacation," Caton said.

"While this is devastating to us, we now want to ensure our guests still have the experience they had hoped for, even if it is not with us this summer."
