The public will get its last chance to relive the Olympic spirit at the speedskating oval in Richmond, B.C., when the rink opens for its final free skate session on Monday afternoon.

The oval will be open from 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. PT. Admission is $2, but children under five get in for free. To add to the atmosphere, a DJ will be on hand to pump out some tunes, and a food stand will be selling refreshments.

After the session ends, the ice will be shut down and the entire facility will be redeveloped into a community sports complex, complete with two ice rinks, basketball courts, a fitness centre and a track-and-field zone.

Parts of the new facility have already opened. The rest will be completed sometime in the fall.

The Richmond Oval was the host venue for the speedskating events during the 2010 Winter Games in February. It was built for a cost of $178 million using pine beetle wood for the roof.
