Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, arrived in Vancouver on Thursday morning as part of a four-day visit to the Paralympic Games.
Edward was welcomed by Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson at the Coal Harbour Community Centre just before noon.
"Prince Edward was here when the Paralympic flag was raised at City Hall [last June], and we are delighted he has returned to participate in this celebration of human determination and achievement," said Robertson.
The prince will attend a special dinner on Thursday evening, before spending the next three days meeting with Paralympic athletes, officials, volunteers and staff at more than 20 events, including the closing ceremonies in Whistler.
He will also present 100 young Canadians with Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, which promote personal development and community involvement, at a ceremony at Point Grey High School, as part his the 28th official visit to Canada.
As youngest son of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Edward also serves as the honorary deputy commissioner of the RCMP and as the colonel in chief of three Canadian Forces Regiments.
