A man who was allegedly beaten on his front doorstep by two Vancouver police officers has now filed a lawsuit in connection with the incident.

The civil action, filed in B.C. Supreme Court, cites the City of Vancouver, the officers involved and Delta Police Department, which was investigating the allegations.

Yao Wei Wu, 44, said he answered a knock on the door of his south Vancouver home in the early morning hours of Jan.21 and was confronted by two plainclothes police officers.

The officers, who were responding to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute, allegedly dragged Wu outside and beat him.

Vancouver police later admitted Wu was not the person they were looking for and arrested a man living in another suite in the house.

Wu suffered severe injuries to his face, his eye, legs and back and is still unable to work, said his lawyer, Cameron Ward.

Ward also said the Delta Police Department had been negligent in its investigation of the incident by allegedly failing to interview the two Vancouver police officers named or any other material witnesses and, the claim said, failing to conduct a thorough examination of the crime scene or to make a timely report to Crown counsel.
