A veteran Abbotsford police officer has been charged with assault following an incident last year.
Const. Doug Lemna — a 19-year member of the force — was one of a handful of officers who responded to a mischief call on Sept. 2nd.
Concerns were raised about the level of force Lemna used during the arrest of two people.
Abbotsford police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald said the professional standards section has been investigating the incident, and Crown lawyers have approved an assault charge.
"[Lemna] has been reassigned to an administrative role since late October," MacDonald said.
"He is still working full time at the department and I don't imagine there would be a reassessment of that role until after the criminal matter has concluded."
MacDonald said Lemna is under investigation for a second, unrelated incident also involving a questionable use of force.
That incident was caught on camera and posted on the website YouTube.
Abbotsford, which is in both Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, is approximately 70 kilometres southeast of Vancouver.
