When the puck drops on the bronze medal men's hockey game Saturday, there won't be a drop of liquor to be bought in downtown Vancouver — unless you're in a bar or restaurant.

Private liquor stores have been asked to close early, at 7 p.m. PT, as they did on Friday and last weekend. Government liquor stores are not affected because they close at 6 p.m. PT.

Vancouver police report there have been a record of 1,800 voluntary liquor pour-outs and over 200 violation tickets for the consumption of liquor in a public place. Still, police say the celebrations downtown have been safe and full of Olympic pride.
