The RCMP say alcohol was a factor in a Burnaby crash that killed two young people and sent three others to hospital.

Investigators say the vehicle hit a light standard, flipped in the air and rolled over at 1:15 a.m. PT Saturday. Police say it was going at high speeds on Willingdon Avenue, near Still Creek Avenue. The seven young people in the vehicle were returning from Olympics celebrations. Two were not injured.

"There were three females and four males on board," said RCMP Sgt. Wayne Baier said.

One of the males was dead at the scene while two other victims, a male and female, were taken to Vancouver General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Baier said. Another occupant was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital "with unknown injuries."
