A B.C. Liberal MLA says she's facing drunk driving charges.

In a statement released Tuesday, Jane Thornthwaite said she was stopped at an RCMP road check in North Vancouver on Monday night and was later charged with impaired driving.

"My actions were inexcusable. Drinking and driving is dangerous and completely unacceptable; I know that and make no excuses for what I did," Thornthwaite said.

Thornthwaite — who represents the riding of North Vancouver-Seymour — said she accepted full responsibility for what she did and would co-operate fully with Crown counsel through her lawyer.

She also offered apologies to her family, friends, colleagues and her constituents, saying she failed to meet the standards she set for herself as a mother and a public official.

Thornthwaite was first elected to the legislature in the May 2009 general election.

Thornthwaite's boss, Premier Gordon Campbell, was convicted of drunk driving in Hawaii in 2003.
