The Olympic transportation plan requires everyone heading to an official event to take public transit, bike or walk. (CBC)In the first real test of the transportation plan for the 2010 Winter Games, Vancouver's public transit has been flooded with thousands of Olympic passengers, creating lineups and waits at many key stations.
TransLink was reporting up to one-sailing waits for some passengers at the North Vancouver SeaBus terminal on Saturday afternoon and large crowds at the Waterfront station as well.
Bus routes leaving UBC, Richmond, and the Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay ferry terminals were also reporting heavy crowds for the hockey and speed skating events. The Canada Line and both SkyTrain light rail routes and the West Coast Express train were also operating at full capacity throughout the day.
The Olympic transportation plan requires everyone heading to official venues to leave their vehicles at home and walk, bike or take public transit. Anyone with an event ticket is entitled to free travel on the TransLink network for the day.
