Police issued this composite sketch of a suspect in the sex assault of a nine-year-old girl in Vancouver Monday. (Vancouver Police Department) A nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted Monday after a teenager convinced her to follow him to a park on Vancouver's west side, police said Wednesday.
The girl was approached about 6:00 p.m. PT by a young man while she sat on a bench near the entrance to the Arbutus Square Mall at Arbutus Street and W. 32nd Avenue, Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness said.
He convinced her to follow him to a nearby park where he sexually assaulted and threatened her, McGuinness said.
The girl then fled and made her way back to the mall to seek help.
The suspect is described as being in his early teens, of average build, 5'-1" to 5'-5" tall with short blonde hair.
He was wearing jeans, a black coat, and high-top runners with either black and purple or black and green markings. He was also carrying a black backpack with a Nike swoosh, said McGuinness.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver police.
