A Vernon RCMP officer has become the third Mountie in as many months to be arrested for impaired driving in B.C.
RCMP said Monday the off-duty officer was found early Saturday morning behind the wheel of his own parked vehicle in Vernon, and the arresting officers suspected he was about to drive while impaired.
The Mountie doesn't face any charges at this time but has been reassigned to desk duties while a criminal investigation and an internal review are under way.
In November, a Vancouver-based RCMP officer was arrested for drunk driving for the second time in two months, while a Coquitlam officer faced a similar charge in September.
Assistant RCMP Commissioner Al Macintyre said he's deeply disappointed to hear of another case of impaired driving among his officers.
"This member will now face not only the criminal justice system, but also an internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation where possible sanctions range from loss of pay to dismissal from the force," Macintyre said in a statement.
The issue garnered a lot of public attention after one of the officers involved in Robert Dziekanski's death at Vancouver's airport was arrested after a vehicle hit and killed a motorcyclist in Delta, B.C., in 2008.
