Vancouver Organizing Committee Chairman of the Board Jack Poole will be posthumously honoured by the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, it was announced Tuesday. (Darryl Dyck/Canadian Press)Gold medallist sprinter Bruny Surin and silver medal speedskater Susan Auch will be among this year's inductees into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, while the late Jack Poole will receive the Canadian Olympic Order.
Poole, 76, died in October of complications from pancreatic cancer. He was chairman of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and headed the committee that won the bid for the Games.
The other athlete being inducted into the hall is kayaker Caroline Brunet, who won two silver medals and a bronze over five Olympics. The builders include long-time COC member Walter Sieber; former Alberta premier Peter Lougheed; the late Carol Anne Letheren, a former president of the Canadian Olympic Association; and athletics coach Paul Poce.
Also receiving the Canadian Olympic Order will be outgoing COC president Michael Chambers.
The inductions will occur at a gala dinner April 23.
All the athletes participating at the 2010 Winter Olympics will also be invited to the dinner, the COC said in a release.
