Most people heading to Olympic events are expected to travel by bus or SkyTrain as part of the Olympic transportation plan. (CBC)Anyone with tickets to Olympic events at Whistler or Cypress Mountain resort will soon be able to book their seats on the Olympic bus network through a new website launched on Monday.
Bus tickets for alpine ski events on Whistler Mountain will go on sale first, starting on Friday. Bus tickets for other events will be released in the following days.
VANOC vice-president Terry Wright said it will cost $28 with taxes for the roundtrip to Whistler, and $14 to Cypress resort, located north of Vancouver. These prices will double for those who book after Jan. 11.
"The reason the price goes up after that, in order for us to finalize the planning for all the systems, we need to know the numbers for all the systems as quickly as possible."
Ticket holders are advised to check the website www.travelsmart2010.ca for the best advice and up-to-date information, said Wright.
Officials warned there will be no public parking at any of the events, and said reservations will be required for all seats on the buses.
Those with bus tickets will have access to a special parking area at the bus departure points, which will be located at the campuses of British Columbia Institute of Technology, Capilano University, Simon Fraser University and Langara College.
There will also be a transfer hub at Lonsdale Quay that is only accessible by public transportation, including the SeaBus.
Whistler permits in the mail
Meanwhile residential property owners in Whistler will soon be receiving two vehicle access permits in the mail.
Access to the Sea to Sky Highway heading north of Squamish during the daytime hours of the 2010 Games will be restricted to vehicles with special Olympic permits. (CBC)The fully transferable permits will allow them to take their vehicles past the daytime checkpoint north of Squamish on the Sea to Sky Highway, which connects Vancouver and Whistler.
The 2010 Winter Olympics Games will be held in Vancouver and Whistler from Feb 12 to 28.
