Two 10-year-old Vancouver girls missing since midday Monday have been found after a massive police search.

Police with tracking dogs had been searching a wooded area in southeast Vancouver for Deanna Lloyd and Chloe Zhu, who were last seen at 12:30 p.m. PT on the grounds of Captain James Cook Elementary School.

The girls were found by police at about 8:30 p.m. walking in a strip mall in the area of Byrne Road and Marine Way in Burnaby, seven kilometres from where they were last seen.

There was no suggestion of foul play, police said, but running away was out of character for both girls. It's possible they went into a wooded area that forms part of the neighbourhood, police said.

Several tips from the public helped in finding the two youngsters, who have been returned to their families.
