An RCMP officer shot and killed a man in northwestern B.C. on Saturday while attempting to arrest him on five outstanding warrants.
RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said police were tipped off that the man was living in a remote area about 70 kilometres north of New Hazelton, near Smithers, B.C.
Police found the wanted man and another man armed with rifles, Moskaluk said.
"When our members entered the wooded, secluded area, the members were confronted by two armed individuals," he said.
"During the arrest, one of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to … hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The second male was taken into custody without injury."
The Delta Police Department, in Metro Vancouver, will investigate the incident.
It is the third police-involved shooting in B.C. in eight days, and the second fatal one.
On Sept. 18, a man was shot and killed by Vancouver police during a domestic dispute. Police said the man was threatening his wife at knifepoint, and officers shot him after a Taser was deployed to no effect.
The same night, a Vancouver Island man was wounded when he was shot by an RCMP officer during a traffic stop in Chemainus.
