(Darryl Dyck/Associated Press/Canadian Press) An all-star tribute to Neil Young and a Ugandan dance troupe are the latest acts to be added to the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad.

The Neil Young tribute will be led by the Toronto pop group Broken Social Scene and also includes Ron Sexsmith and the band Iron and Wine. The Spirit of Uganda is a company of 22 young dancers orphaned by AIDS or civil war.

The Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC) announced the two performances in a news release Monday.

American singer Steve Earle also will perform, along with supporting act Joel Plaskett and performances by the Montreal band Stars, the Hilario Duran Latin Jazz Band, Toronto rapper K'Naan and Tinariwen.

The Olympiad features a range of entertainers appearing at 60 venues in and around Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., between Jan. 22 and March 21, 2010.

The shows announced Monday are in addition to 55 previously announced performances by such artists as Robert Lepage, Laurie Anderson, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre from Taiwan, the Kronos Quartet and Tanya Tagaq.

"Our vision for Cultural Olympiad 2010 is that it be eclectic, bold and breathtaking," said VANOC vice-president of culture and celebrations, Burke Taylor.

"Whether it's on stage, online, in a gallery, or on the street, we want people to have an extraordinary Olympic and Paralympic experience," Taylor said.

The federal government is providing $400,000 for the digital aspect of the Cultural Olympiad, which consists of a website featuring Canadian art that also allows the public to upload photos and stories about their daily lives as Canadians.
